An extended family sought living space in a former warehouse at the center of Como. Well-lit by regularly placed windows on two sides, the interior called for variable divisions and a sense of spatial continuity. A balance between flexibility and regularity led to a continuous lining of shelves, extending windows and recesses in depth, while introducing sliding room dividers and doors. Hardwood flooring of traditionally wide planks adds the familiar sound of moving around a home, and an improvisational arrangement of individual areas encourages each member of the household to find his or her own way within the family.
